Century Farm Application

The Century Farm and Ranch program is a partnership between the Idaho Department of Agriculture and the Idaho State Historical Society. The program was created to recognize the importance and widespread contributions of Idaho’s farming and ranching pioneers by honoring the families who have farmed or ranched on the same land their ancestors did 100 years ago. Over 500 farms and ranches have been designated Idaho Century Farms or Ranches statewide.

Qualifications include:

1. Only one person may apply for the Century Farm or Ranch designation. Co-ownerships by multiple family members (husband and wife, brother and sister, etc.) are eligible for a joint award.

2. Continuous ownership within the same family for 100 years or more (the line of ownership from the original settler or buyer may be through children, brothers, sisters, nephews, and /or nieces, including through marriage or adoption).

3. Present owner(s) must live on the farm or ranch or actively manage the land and activities.

4. At least 40 acres of the original farm must remain in same family ownership and has been in agricultural production for at least 100 years and is still in agricultural production. Documentation is required. - Documentation of $1000 agricultural related gross income for the past 5 years (a letter from your tax accountant stating the above is acceptable documentation for this requirement).
