Agricultural Protection Areas

The Agricultural Protection Areas in a voluntary program where Ag or forest lands can be set aside as protected lands as provided by Title 67, Chapter 97 of the State of Idaho. The legislation goes on to state that all counties shall establish an ordnance to implement this Code by January1, 2025.
Our county Ordnance provides the mechanism to identify the property you want to protect:
Property will be protected for 20 year intervals with the opportunity to be extended.
Property must be a minimum of 5 acres.
Property must be assessed in the county as agriculture or forest lands.
Property must be devoted to agriculture or forest production
Land must have been in agriculture or forest production for the past three years.
In our county, applications are available at the County Planning and Zoning office.
Applications are first reviewed by the County Agricultural Protection Area Commission, and then by our County Commissioners.
Once approved, the property will be identified on land use maps and in the county records office.
